Like most websites, Reporting on Sexual Violence in Conflict (coveringcrsv.org), does collect information such as IP addresses of visitors and data about the usage of pages. Dart Centre Europe is a regional hub for the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma which is a project of Columbia Graduate Journalism School. The link on the coveringcrsv.org leads directly to an email sign-up page on an external site dartcenter.org, which is maintained by the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma in New York. By entering details on that site you are signing up on the mailing list for both Dart Centre Europe and the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma.

If you choose to provide such information, that information will not be used for purposes other than that for which it was collected. Neither the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma nor Dart Centre Europe will sell or transfer your e-mail address or use it for anything other than communications from the Dart Center and will never do so without your explicit permission. What is meant by personal data?

• Fulfilling our mission as an organisation that advocatesethical and thorough reporting of trauma; compassionate, professional treatment of victims and survivors by journalists; and greater awareness by media organizations of the impact of trauma coverage on both news professionals and news consumers.

We collect personal data to help us to process your requests, keep in touch with you and to help us to interact with you in the most effective way. Examples of why we process your personal data include:

• Keeping you updated on our work and the impact of your support;
• Making sure you know about events that you can participate in as Dart Centre supporter;
• Inviting you to participate in campaigns;
• Providing services, products or information you have requested;
• Checking with you on how you want us to contact you, and record these preferences;
• Keeping notes of conversations that you have with our team, as a reference if you want to revisit the conversation later;
• Notifying you of changes to our policies when these affect you;
• Ensuring that content from our site is presented in the most effective way for you and your computer;

Data Processing

The personal data that we hold may be transferred and subsequently processed by external providers. For example, it may be stored securely in the cloud on servers belonging to third-party suppliers, who provide Dart Centre Europe with IT services. Where such third-party suppliers have such access to personal data, we ensure that proper controls and contracts are in place to regulate how those suppliers manage the personal data to which they have access. The Dart Centre takes the care of your data very seriously and we use a combination of organisational and technological security measures to protect your personal information to the highest possible standards.

Whilst we take all of the measures that we’ve outlined above, unfortunately, the transmission of information using the internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data sent to us this way, we cannot guarantee the security of data transmitted to our site.
